Democrats Ahead in in Evesham Township

Evesham Democrats continue progress towards November success

EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY, June 11, 2018 – Voters in Burlington County’s largest municipality came out in increased numbers for last Tuesday’s Primary Election thanks to enthusiasm for the Democratic candidates on the ballot.

“With only Senator Menendez challenged on the ballot, Democratic voters in Evesham did not have much need to come out and vote in the June 5th Primary, and yet, by a very good margin, they still did. That tells me that Democrats are excited about voting for Jaclyn Veasy for Mayor of Evesham, and Heather Cooper and Patricia Hansen for Evesham Township Council,” said Phil Warren, Chairman of the Evesham Township Democratic Committee.

First-time Mayoral candidate Jaclyn Veasy received 1,935 votes, on par with Congressional candidate Andy Kim’s results in Evesham. Council candidates Heather Cooper and Patricia Hansen garnered a high number, as well, with 1,909 and 1,879 votes, respectively. 12-year incumbent Mayor Randy Brown continued his primary turnout slide, only garnering 1,084 votes in the Republican primary. That was about 100 fewer votes than his fellow Republican Council running mates. Republican turnout in Evesham stayed flat compared to past years while Democrats increased turnout by several percentage points.

“It’s really exciting to see our community give such strong support to our ticket,” said Jaclyn Veasy, the Democratic candidate for Mayor of Evesham Township. “The fact that so many people came out to vote in an uncontested primary inspires our whole team to work even harder to reach voters and spread our message.”

“We are delighted to see the growing enthusiasm and support for Democratic candidates following Governor Murphy and New Jersey Democrat’s big wins in 2017. The whole team and our volunteers look forward to bringing new, community oriented leadership to Evesham, Burlington County, and the 3rd Congressional District in November,” said Mr. Warren.
