Durr Blasts Democrat Bill that Would Punish Schools for Respecting Parental Rights

Senator Ed Durr blasted a new Democrat-sponsored bill that would impose financial penalties on school districts that remove pornographic books from school libraries at the request of concerned parents.

“It’s absolutely nuts that Trenton Democrats want to punish schools for listening to the concerns of parents and removing books that contain pornographic material,” said Durr (R-3). “Parents should be able to say that they don’t believe certain books are age-appropriate for their children’s schools, and school districts should be commended rather than punished for respecting parental rights. This legislation shows just how far Democrats are willing to go to push their gender ideology on our kids.”

The bill, S-3907, was introduced by Senator Andrew Zwicker (D-16). It prohibits public libraries and public schools from banning or restricting access to certain books, and permits withholding of State aid for non-compliance.

Durr said any withheld State aid would be in addition to school funding cuts many districts suffered under S-2.

“We have nearly 200 school districts that have suffered devastating cuts in State school aid under S-2, which is redistributing funds we should have gotten to other parts of the state,” Durr added. “And now we have the threats of more school funding cuts if districts dare to listen to the concerns of parents. It’s sickening that Trenton Democrats won’t give our schools the money to teach math and science, and want to punish us for not making pornography available in our schools. If anyone is wondering why parents are so upset, this is why.”
