East Brunswick GOP Chairman Jesal Amin Questions Jim Wendell’s ELEC Records

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

East Brunswick, NJ- East Brunswick GOP Chairman Jesal Amin released the following statement about a serious campaign finance violation alleged to be committed by Councilman Jim Wendell.

Councilman Wendell was a candidate for Mayor in 2016.  During his campaign he filed the required 29 day pre-election report, 11 day pre-election report and 20 day post-election report.  He closed his 20 day post-election report with a balance of $16,360.21. Per New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC) regulations candidates are required to submit quarterly reports until outstanding campaign funds are spent or are transferred to another campaign and the original account has a zero balance. Councilman Wendell submitted no such quarterly reports, nor has he transferred the funds to a future campaign of his.  Consequently, he has controlled in excess of $16,000 with no oversight by ELEC leaving the funds ripe for abuse.

Chairman Amin stated:

“Councilman Wendell has once again proven his irresponsibility as an elected official.  Jim Wendell’s failure to disclose the whereabouts of over $16,000 in campaign funds shows that at best he lacks the attention to detail required of a councilman or any public official tasked with overseeing tax dollars or, at worst, is a blatantly corrupt politician who embezzled and expended funds with no oversight on personal expenditures.

Regardless of if or how the funds were expended, the mere fact this is even a question is disqualifying.  Serving as a public official, requires the public trust, which Councilman Wendell has betrayed.  The residents of East Brunswick deserve elected leaders who are responsible for their campaign funds and for tax dollars.  Jim Wendell is not. Fortunately there is a choice this November.”
