EC Dems Luciano & Di Gregorio Condemn Mayor Kranjac’s Move to Demand Payment from Teen Organizer of Peaceful Anti-Racism Protest

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — According to a shocking report in the Record, Mayor Mario Kranjac is demanding that a local teen who organized a recent peaceful protest against racism pay the borough nearly $2,500 for alleged police overtime expenses. Englewood Cliffs Democrats are condemning the preposterous move by Mayor Kranjac as another in a long line of inappropriate abuses of power and calling on him to stop trying to bully dissenting voices who don’t agree with his tyrannical, chaotic approach to local government.

“While other communities are encouraging their young people to become more active in civic life, Mayor Kranjac is so thin skinned and insecure that the second he is criticized by a teenager his reaction is to try and silence her voice with a totally inappropriate demand for thousands of dollars,” said Glenn Luciano and David Di Gregorio, Democratic candidates for Borough Council. “This is another abuse of power by a Mayor who has utterly failed our community and it’s time for residents to stand up against Mario Kranjac’s embarrassing conduct and demand better. Englewood Cliffs Democrats unequivocally stand against racism, bullying and misuse of public resources, and we are calling on Mayor Kranjac to withdraw his shakedown attempt and publicly apologize to Emily Gil.”
