Environment New Jersey, Environment America endorse 5 NJ Congressional candidates for re-election

TRENTON, N.J. – Environment New Jersey and its national office Environment America announced today that they are endorsing the re-election of five U.S. Representatives from New Jersey: Reps. Andy Kim, Chris Smith, Frank Pallone, Tom Malinowski and Mikie Sherrill — all of whom the groups endorsed in previous elections.

“From the Appalachian Trail to the Jersey Shore, New Jersey has a wealth of natural wonders — and a wealth of Congress members willing to protect our environment,” said Environment New Jersey State Director Doug O’Malley. “Representatives Kim, Smith, Pallone, Malinowski and Sherrill have all compiled strong records as green champions, and they all deserve at least another term to build on their impressive accomplishments.”

Rep. Andy Kim represents New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District. His voting record and commitments display staunch support for clean energy and conservation, and staunch opposition to offshore drilling and the toxic forever chemicals known as PFAS that contaminate drinking water supplies.

Representing New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District, Rep. Chris Smith is one of the best Republicans in Congress on the environment. He boasts a strong history on water issues. Notably, he was the chief sponsor of the Get The Lead Out Act, a bill designed to identify and replace lead service lines that can contaminate the water running through them.

Rep. Frank Pallone, who represents New Jersey’s 6th Congressional District, chairs the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He is directly responsible for several major pieces of environmental legislation, including his work on the Inflation Reduction Act, and restoring two taxes on polluters to pay to clean up Superfund sites, funding for EV charging and electric school buses, and a methane emissions reduction program.

Rep. Tom Malinowski represents New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. Working with landowners and environmentalists, he was able to stop the PennEast pipeline project that would have run through part of New Jersey close to the Delaware River. In addition, his Protect and Restore America’s Estuaries Act, signed into law by former President Trump, improves water quality and ecological integrity for our nation’s most significant watersheds.

Rep. Mikie Sherrill represents New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. She is the Chairwoman of the Environment Subcommittee on the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee. There, she has held hearings and led legislation to address flood mitigation, lead in drinking water, climate-resilient infrastructure and scientific integrity, and she was a key co-sponsor for the Great American Outdoors Act to expand funding for the Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).
