Essential Immigrants take over Newark Penn Station to Demand Citizenship for Essential Workers in Infrastructure Package
Essential Immigrants take over Newark Penn Station to Demand Citizenship for Essential Workers in Infrastructure PackageAs part of a nationwide day of action to demand a pathway to citizenship to be included in the infrastructure package. (Newark, NJ – July 23, 2021): Today immigrant essential workers rallied at Newark Penn Station as part of a nationwide day of action to demand a pathway to citizenship be included in the infrastructure package. Essential workers are critical to the infrastructure that kept America open and running through a pandemic. Last week, the national movement scored a crucial victory when Congressional Democrats announced that their infrastructure package would include a pathway to citizenship. As Washington continues to debate an infrastructure package, it is critical that Democrats hold the line and maintain the inclusion of a pathway to citizenship for immigrant essential workers to ensure we all get through this crisis and beyond. Jenny L. of Perth Amboy, member-leader of Make the Road New Jersey, said “I am part of a mixed-status family — my daughters are legal permanent residents, and I am undocumented. I want to go to work and live without fear, but I also want my daughters to live without fear. Today, we are here to remind the Biden Administration and Congress that immigrants move America. For our country to fully recover from the pandemic, a pathway to citizenship must be included in the infrastructure package for essential workers. We are essential, not deportable. We call on Senator Bob Menendez and Senator Cory Booker to continue demanding a pathway to citizenship for all.”
