Essex County Sheriff Amir Jones Kicks Off IYO “Lunch and Learn” Series to Inspire Youth Toward Law Enforcement Careers

Newark, NJ – Essex County Sheriff Amir Jones launched the International Youth Organization’s (IYO) Lunch and Learn Series with a powerful message to local youth ages 16–25: consider a career in law enforcement as a pathway to success and service.
The event brought together community leaders and young people for an afternoon of encouragement, education, and dialogue about workforce development and public safety. Sheriff Jones emphasized the importance of youth engagement, mentorship, and representation in law enforcement, stating, “We need the next generation to see law enforcement not just as a job, but as a calling to serve and protect their communities with integrity and compassion.”
Also in attendance was East Orange Councilwoman Naiima Fauntleroy, who echoed the sheriff’s commitment to empowering youth. She pledged to support initiatives that connect young adults with resources, training, and career opportunities.
Both leaders highlighted the International Youth Organization’s longstanding workforce development program, which for decades has provided career readiness training, mentorship, and employment opportunities for Newark and Essex County youth. Sheriff Jones and Councilwoman Fauntleroy are actively seeking additional resources and partnerships to help expand these programs, ensuring that more young people have the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.
The Lunch and Learn Series is the latest in IYO’s mission to engage young adults, foster positive career pathways, and build stronger communities across Essex County.
