FARMER, FOLEY AND SUPER CALL ON NJEA TO UNMASK OUR CHILDREN
HADDONFIELD, NJ – The Farmer, Foley and Super for LD6 campaign has responded to a screening interview request from the NJEA with a letter demanding the NJEA do all in its power to ensure that New Jersey’s public school students are unmasked for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year.
Despite overwhelming evidence in favor of unmasking students, the NJEA has not taken an official side on the matter.
“To be very frank, we do not believe that you are an organization that has the best interest of New Jersey educators, parents, and children in mind. We believe you are nothing more than a far-too-powerful special interest group, one of many that contribute to Trenton’s culture of political gamesmanship and corruption. Further, despite your stated mission, we do not believe you advocate for teachers – we believe you stick your finger up and feel the political winds before reaching any type of conclusion or decision as to which policies you advocate for and against,” begins the letter, which is signed by all three candidates.
“One policy that we believe should have your full-throated advocacy is the full removal of masks on our children for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. This policy is as close to a no-brainer as it gets. There has been countless research conducted showing that children are by far the least vulnerable population when it comes to catching, spreading, and becoming seriously ill as a result of COVID. In fact, according to the American Association of Pediatrics, the mortality rate among children in the state of New Jersey is .01% – seven total since the beginning of the pandemic, out of nearly 1.3 million New Jersey public school students.”
“We are very concerned about your lack of taking a position on an issue as obvious as this. We would not want your endorsement until you commit full and unequivocal support for ending the ridiculous policy of keeping our children masked in school. If and when you voice that support, we are happy to screen for your endorsement. Until then, our time would be better spent on the ground in the 6th Legislative district earning the votes of hardworking every day taxpayers.”
