Felician University’s Student Government Association Partners with Aunt Flow to Combat Period Poverty in the United States

RUTHERFORD, NJ – Felician University’s Student Government Association is taking the next step in promoting gender equality on campus in its new partnership with the Aunt Flow Initiative. In collaboration with Aunt Flow, Felician University will be providing students with free period products beginning in January 2023. As of January 10, dispensers stocked with free cotton menstrual pads and tampons are installed and available in restrooms on the Lodi and Rutherford Felician University campuses.

In response to calls from the student community for greater access to period products on campus, the university’s Student Government Association (SGA) pursued a partnership with Aunt Flow. A female-owned company, Aunt Flow’s mission is to combat “period poverty” and further gender equality worldwide by providing equal access to period products, one institution at a time. In 2021, Aunt Flow donated more than 1.6 million period products to those in need and continues to partner with businesses and universities to ensure universal access to menstrual products.

“Providing equal opportunity to a quality education for all students, regardless of gender, race, or status, is a guiding principle of Felician University,” said David Crawford, Graduate Senator for the Student Government Association at Felician. “The cost of period products forms a barrier to education for too many students across the nation. Felician affirms with the Aunt Flow initiative that combating period poverty is a crucial step in promoting gender equality.”

By promoting equal access to menstrual products, Felician University is removing gender-based obstacles to education, one free period product at a time.
