FORKIN CALLS FOR FEDERAL INVESTIGATION OF STATE SPECIAL INTEREST FIRMS IN ATLANTIC CITY
Atlantic City, NJ -During the course of our Mayoral Campaign it has come to our attention, as to
the abuses and inherent conflicts of interest concerning outside Special Interest Firms, appointed by
the State, and unchallenged by the City; continuing to drain taxpayer revenue with over billing and
excessive fees. We are asking for a Federal Investigation to review these inherent abuses of
process and conflicts of interest. Clearly the interests of the State are NOT the same as the
residents in Atlantic City for our respective health, safety and welfare”.
“Since the State Takeover in 2016 pursuant to S11, the State has more than doubled our Debt from
100 Million to over 400+ Million. Despite burdening our residents with unsustainable property
taxes, an undermanned Public Safety Department, with crime ridden & trash strewn streets, State
Special Interests are alive and well in our City”.
One particular Firm, the Chisea Law Firm, which as of 2018 has billed taxpayers 5+ Million!? And
is presently approaching the 10 Million dollar mark; to which the City Administration has denied
any knowledge or accountability. This has become so egregious that the ACFD was forced to file
appropriate legal action against the City & State for placing our First responders and our
communities Public Safety at Risk! The Chisea Firm is still at work in Atlantic City, over seeing
our Public Safety, more specifically Beach Patrol, Police & Fire; as per the attached Invoices.
“You mean to tell me that the State Attorney General’s Office, or City Solicitor’s Office couldn’t
assign competent counsel to handle these matters in house and save millions of tax dollars?” Notes
Forkin; “OR retain a LOCAL Firm to represent on those rare conflicts cases?”
“Despite the contention that there are not enough resources to give our Public Works a raise after
8 years without? OR adequately provide rank and file for our ACFD / ACPD; the City / State still
find ways to pay these special interest firms and run us further into debt and mismanage our tax
revenue.
In addition to asking for a Federal Investigation of these abuses, Forkin has also proposed to file
a Constitutional & Civil Rights Action against the State as to the Casino PILOT and State Takeover
(S11).
