BAYONNE – Expressing regret for endorsing current Bayonne mayor Jimmy Davis four years ago, former mayoral candidate Lenny Kantor today released the following statement endorsing Jason O’Donnell in next Tuesday’s mayoral election. Kantor also shot down the false claims from Davis supporters that he is with their candidate.

“There is a fraudulent comment on social media by one of the most vocal supporters of Mayor Davis stating that I support the mayor for re-election.  That is simply not true.  In fact, I regret that I endorsed Davis the first time.  I am endorsing Jason O’Donnell for mayor.

After multiple conversations with Jason, I know that he only has the best interests of Bayonne residents at heart.  His family has lived here for generations and he has also dedicated his life to the city.  I worked with Jason’s grandfather, ‘Soup’ O’Donnell, on the Bayonne Police Department, and I know he would be proud of his grandson’s commitment to serving the public.  Jason has served as a firefighter, an Assemblyman and as a public official who fought to consolidate three city departments into one to save taxpayer money and create efficiencies.  I have taken the time to read his team’s plans to fix the seemingly never-ending parking problem in Bayonne and also their plans to improve every resident’s quality of life at no cost to taxpayers, and I came away very impressed.

I deeply regret endorsing Jimmy Davis for Mayor four years ago.  He promised that he was going to better the city by decreasing taxes, creating new high paying jobs for Bayonne residents, work towards better parking conditions and create an overall better quality of life for all.  He didn’t do any of that, and most of the suggestions I proposed to help the city were ignored.  Bayonne voters need to ask themselves, why has Jimmy Davis raised taxes over the last four years even after receiving millions of dollars from the MOTBY land sale?  Why would any property owner or rent payer vote for a Mayor that is costing them more money every year while he gives huge tax breaks to his wealthy out of town developer friends?”
