Freeholder Kern Supports Request for Portion of State’s Discretionary Federal Resources Be Directed to Warren County

Warren County, NJ – Warren County Freeholder James R. Kern III echoed the calls from the entire New Jersey congressional delegation that a portion of the discretionary federal CARES Act resources given to New Jersey be directed to Warren County. Under the funding formula of the CARE’s ACT, Warren County along with Sussex, Hunterdon and Salem Counties, did not meet any of the three criteria of these automatic, predetermined federal formulas: 1) counties with at least 500,000 people; 2) cities with populations more than 50,000; or 3) “principal cities,” which is a Census formula designation.

“We can debate the failings and lack of oversight of this legislation after the pandemic is over. What is crucial now it that Warren County receives funding. The county went live with a COVID-19 testing site last week and has yet to receive a penny of federal aid. I hope the Governor will consider and implement this request from our congressional delegation.”
