Galloway Democratic Club Statement on Firearm Safety
(Galloway) Joshua Smith, President of the Galloway Democratic Club, issued the following statement on behalf of the Club.
“As a nation mourns the tragic loss of life in Uvalde, Texas, we are once again reminded of how the security and safety of our children should be our collective top priority. Mass shootings have become normalized, and we are frustrated by how vulnerable we have all become to gun violence. “
“Many gun advocates choose to unconditionally protect gun ownership without common sense safety regulations. Our very own Galloway Township Council chose to support a group opposed to common sense firearm safety measures, like background checks and firearm storage. They unanimously passed resolution #64-22, even though township residents spoke out against the proposal. While this resolution did nothing more than to serve as a symbolic political gesture, it is clear Galloway Townships Council values guns over people. It continues to serve as a slap in the face to every victim of gun violence. “
“We call on the Galloway Townships’ Council to rescind their hastily passed resolution. While we support the second amendment, we believe the resolution misrepresents our township as one that values guns over the safety of our community.” |
