GARDEN STATE EQUALITY ACTION FUND CALLS ON NEW JERSEY’S FEDERAL REPRESENTATIVES TO SUPPORT REMOVAL OF PRESIDENT DONALD J TRUMP AND COMMENCE SECOND IMPEACHMENT AND TRIAL TO PREVENT FUTURE RUN

THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT HAS BEEN ISSUED BY CHRISTIAN FUSCARINO, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, GARDEN STATE EQUALITY ACTION FUND:

President Donald J. Trump and his supporters engaged in a treasonous attack on our Nation yesterday. Their actions represent the most egregious and reprehensible action one can take against democracy itself and they all must answer and be brought to justice.  The president’s actions, in particular, demonstrate that it is time to remove Donald J. Trump from office immediately and impeach him and convict him to prevent him from returning.

While we have been aware of this threat, yesterday it came to life in a terrible and deadly way.  As the President of the United States addressed a crowd of radical militia, he literally called for them to head to the Capitol and fight–in his words: “We fight like Hell and if you don’t fight like Hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”  Some of his supporters wore a “Camp Auschwitz”, Nazi and Confederate insignias and emblems, and he cheered them on to foment rebellion, praising the worst among us who profess white supremacy and racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic violence.

Put simply, President Donald J. Trump organized and propelled a violent insurrection against our legislative branch of government and rebuked our nation’s most sacred values. He has violated his oath of office to support and defend the Constitution and his treason cannot go unchecked. Just like the South, we must ensure that Trump never rises again. This can only be accomplished through a formal Impeachment process with the Senate convicting him.

Lastly, to all of the Senators and House members: you should never fear for your life, suffer attacks or violence, or have to shelter in place under the very legislative desks at which you do the work of the people. We thank you for your courage and we respect your public service. That said, our representatives must act immediately to respond aggressively to these shameful attacks and to ensure President Trump can no longer disgrace our Nation in public office. As Senators and House members, you have been sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States and it is clear Donald Trump is an existential threat to the very foundation of our Nation and everyone’s safety, including yours. He must never hold this power again and you must take up the process laid out by our Founders for this exact moment.
