GOTTHEIMER LAUNCHES ASIAN-AMERICANS FOR JOSH

WYCKOFF, NJ — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer officially launched “Asian-Americans for Josh,” with a virtual conversation featuring Asian-American elected officials and local leaders from across the Fifth District. The conversation was facilitated by Dr. Balpreet Grewal-Virk, Vice President of Community Engagement for Hackensack Meridian Health, and focused on the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, working across the aisle to get things done for North Jersey, supporting local businesses, and combating hate and discrimination in our communities.

Participants included Dumont Council Member Jimmy Chae, Closter Council Member Jannie Chung, and Oradell Council Member Miriam Yu, as well as Dr. Balpreet Grewal-Virk.

“I’m a Sikh-American who lives in Josh’s district, and I don’t have to tell you the tremendous work that Josh has done over the last few years. He is pro-business, fiscally responsible, and socially progressive, and has no problem working across the aisle to get things done. Many of us know he’s the Co-Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, he’s spent numerous hours working to lower our taxes, improve health care, protecting international relationships, and works very hard to fix our crumbling New Jersey infrastructure. He’s a great congressman, he leads every single day, and he’s fighting for every single New Jerseyan. I’m proud to call him our congressman, someone who represents the Fifth District, and a dear friend,” said Dr. Balpreet Grewal-Virk, Vice President of Community Engagement for Hackensack Meridian Health.

“I am deeply honored to have the support of so many of our Asian-American elected officials, local leaders, and small business owners from across the Fifth District. The diverse communities we have in North Jersey are part of what makes this such a special place to live, raise our families, and do business. In Congress, I will continue doing everything I can to support North Jersey families and business owners and make sure they have all the resources they need,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer.

New Jersey has the fourth-largest Asian-American population in the United States, growing more than 1,400% since 1970. The Fifth District is home to more than 76,000 Asian-American residents, constituting more than 10 percent of the district’s population.
