Gottheimer Visits Brand New Mahwah Post Office, Celebrates Added Service to Fifth District

MAHWAH, NJ – On June 15, 2020, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) visited the new Mahwah Post Office to greet constituents, thank employees, drop off letters, and celebrate the crucial role that the United States Postal Service (USPS) plays in the Fifth District.

“The USPS plays such a vital role in the Fifth District and our nation, especially during this pandemic,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I’m pleased that this new Post Office in Mahwah will save Fifth District community members time to do their business. Let’s continue to thank all our letter carriers that deliver our mail day in and day out who work so hard to get our mail to us.”

Gottheimer, a member of the Bipartisan Postal Preservation Caucus, has consistently supported the United States Postal Service as it deals with the effects of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis,  including:

  • Co-signed a bipartisan letter to Senate Majority Leader McConnell and Democratic Leader Schumer urging them to provide $25 billion in emergency grants to the USPS to offset COVID-19 revenue losses and allow improved access to borrowing authority from the Department of the Treasury;
  • Co-signed a bipartisan letter with Representative Lee Zeldin to House leadership to push for desperately needed and urgent economic relief for the USPS to be included in COVID-19 legislation; and

  • Co-signed a letter to House leadership requesting additional investment for the USPS and requesting it be directed to preserve service standards and area mail processing facilities (AMPs).
