Governor Murphy, Chairman Currie Respond to President Trump’s Campaign Rally with Congressman Van Drew in Wildwood

TRENTON, NJ — Governor Phil Murphy and New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie today responded to President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Wildwood with Rep. Jeff Van Drew, who recently sold out his constituents and principles to align himself with the Republican Party and President Trump. Both leaders have stood strong against President Trump since the 2016 campaign and look forward to vigorously backing a Democratic candidate against the President later this year.

“President Trump has spent the past three years breaking promises and taking our country backwards by embracing hate and division,” said Governor Phil Murphy. “His failed record stands in stark contrast to what we’ve been able to accomplish here in New Jersey, and his presence is a reminder of how important it is that we continue working to make our economy deliver for the middle class, not just the wealthy and well-connected. That’s what we’re fighting for as Democrats, and that’s why we will defeat President Trump and Rep. Van Drew in November.”

“Congressman Jeff Van Drew has betrayed his constituents and failed to uphold his duty to the constitution by choosing not to hold President Trump accountable for his corruption,” said NJDSC Chairman John Currie. “It is a disgrace that Congressman Van Drew would choose to stand with Trump here in New Jersey, where we pride ourselves on diversity and inclusivity. There is no place for President Trump’s hateful rhetoric in New Jersey and we will work tirelessly to defeat Trump enablers like Jeff Van Drew this November.”
