Governor Murphy Directs U.S. and New Jersey Flags to Fly at Half-Staff in Honor of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka

TRENTON – Governor Phil Murphy today ordered that the U.S. and New Jersey flags be flown at half-staff at all state buildings and facilities on Monday, August 9, 2021 to honor AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, who passed away on Thursday.

“I am shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of my friend, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka,” said Governor Murphy. “Working families in New Jersey and throughout the nation have lost one of their most steadfast and dedicated allies. Tammy and I send our deepest condolences to his wife, Barbara, and son, Richard – and to his entire New Jersey State AFL-CIO family. We have lost a good man, and I know we will feel his spirit as we continue our work for a stronger and fairer New Jersey that works for every family.”
