(Edison)- Governor Phil Murphy received the endorsement of the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters today in an announcement with Union leadership at the Carpenters Training Center in Edison, New Jersey.

“Supporting the creation of jobs, growing the construction industry with new renewable energy programs, combating fraud in the construction industry, and protecting workers have been cornerstones of Governor Murphy’s time in office,” said William C. Sproule, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, “The Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters is proud to announce we stand behind the Governor’s re-election and are committed to working together on these issues in the future.”

“Since day one, we’ve lived up to New Jersey’s proud union heritage and stood shoulder to shoulder with the hardworking men and women of organized labor,” said Governor Murphy. “Together, we’ve strengthened wage protections, cracked down on misclassification, and leveled the playing field for workers. I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, and I look forward to furthering our partnership to build New Jersey’s future.”

“Governor Murphy has been an advocate for the issues our workers care about, including the all-too-issues of wage theft, worker misclassification, payroll fraud, and tax fraud in the construction industry,” said Sproule, “The Governor’s action in creating a Task Force on Employee Misclassification will allow for construction industry partners and government officials to come together to work towards protecting New Jersey workers from these actions.”

The Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters represents over 41,000 of the most skilled carpenters who live and work in Delaware, The District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Virginia, and West Virginia. EAS Carpenters are trained in many different trades, including:  commercial/residential carpentry; heavy highway; piledriving; floor-layering; mill cabinet work; and tradeshow construction.
