Greenstein, Gill Bill to Track Healthcare Worker COVID-19 Cases Becomes Law
Trenton – In an effort to accurately gauge the impact of the pandemic on the medical community, legislation sponsored by Senators Linda Greenstein and Nia Gill to require reporting on the number of healthcare professionals who test positive for COVID-19 was signed into law.
“While it will likely be years before we know the full impact the pandemic has had on frontline workers, this will at least provide some insight as to how many of our doctors, nurses, and support staff have tested positive or lost their lives to COVID-19,” said Senator Greenstein (D-Middlesex/Mercer). “As we continue efforts to determine the scope of this crisis, this new law will provide much-needed data to determine the impact it has had on our healthcare workforce.”
“This pandemic has highlighted and exacerbated the structural flaws of our healthcare system. It is essential that we have the ability to collect data to identify those most impacted and protect them from further harm,” said Senator Gill (D-Essex). “This law will provide the data we need to ensure the safety of frontline workers by analyzing the impact this disease has had on them to recognize those we’ve lost, and spot trends going forward so we can ensure facilities have support when they need it.”
