HACKENSACK, NJ — Hackensack Councilman Leo Battaglia and City Council Candidate Gerard L. Carroll have endorsed Assemblyman Gordon Johnson for the open LD37 Senate seat following Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg’s retirement.

Councilman Battaglia said, “As a council member for the past seven years, I’ve seen firsthand how Gordon Johnson leads in Trenton on issues that concern Hackensack residents. He is a true public servant, and I’m proud to offer my support and endorsement for his candidacy.”

Bergen County Community College Board of Trustee and City Council Candidate Gerard L. Carroll said, “With racial justice issues at the forefront of the national discussion for the past several months, we need elected officials who understand how to tackle these issues and leaders that understand the urgency of this moment. As an NAACP member in Hackensack, I’m proud to support his candidacy to become the first African American State Senator in Bergen County’s history. I look forward to partnering with him on all kinds of issues that affect our constituents in Hackensack, including promoting racial justice and inclusion for all.”

Battaglia and Carroll join fellow Democrat Mayor John Labrosse in endorsing Assemblyman Johnson’s candidacy for State Senate. The Labrosse Team ticket includes Mayor John Labrosse, Deputy Mayor Kathleen Canestrino, Councilman Leo Battaglia, Councilwoman Stephanie Von Rudenborg, and Council candidate Gerard Carroll. First elected in 2013 and re-elected in 2017, the Labrosse Team has succeeded in revitalizing Hackensack by attracting over $1 billion in new real estate investment into the city, lowering property taxes, restoring honesty and integrity to city government, building new parks, recreation facilities, and public spaces, investing in the city’s infrastructure and creating hundreds of new units of affordable housing. The Labrosse Team is running for re-election to continue delivering progress and moving the city forward.
