Happy Box was created when Hoboken resident Ariel Redmond was going through a breakup and her sister, Hannah Redmond wanted to raise her spirits with something unique. When Hannah realized there was no way to easily create a custom care package online, she saw a business opportunity and pitched the idea to her sister. The two built the company as a side hustle while working in marketing and advertising, until a few weeks ago, when they both committed to take the business full time. They aim to continue to innovate gifting and to continue supporting other small businesses by buying a variety of their gift items from mission based, women-owned and minority owned businesses. Jen Tripucka, founder of Hoboken Girl met Ariel + Hannah when they were just launching Happy Box.
Fast-forward to present day, with COVID-19 cancelling plans for an in-person holiday market that Hoboken Girl hosts annually, the three decided something needed to be done to keep the “shop small” spirit alive, even in pandemic times.
The two brands are thrilled to launch this local box to create a platform for local brands to showcase some small businesses locally and offer a way to shop small for holiday gifts, all while giving back to the community.
$1 of every sale will be donated to WomenRising, a non-profit in Jersey City, to help support women and their families. WomenRising has been helping women and their families. Our clients are in need – in need of jobs, safety from domestic violence, freedom from homelessness, safe lives for children. This community-based organization of Hudson County provides counseling, job assistance, shelter and so much more for women in our community.
