THE HEART OF NEW JERSEY RECEIVES A TON OF FREE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

FROM LATINO BUSINESSES IN NORTH JERSEY

NEW BRUNSWICK – This Friday 5th of June at The Roosevelt Elementary School on 83 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick 2PM a humanitarian campaign will be held with the collaboration of New Brunswick Mayor James Cahill and city Councilwoman Rebecca Escobar.

The Latino Spirit, a statewide latino media corporation will be giving back to “El Pueblo” a one ton donation of fruits and vegetables from The Morris County Hispanic-American Chamber of Commerce. On site to complement the donation is Ay Caramba Restaurant owner Leonel Morales who is matching the number of families being served with eggs and bread.

The NY Times recently reported “doctors see an alarming disparity and disproportionate COVID-19 impact on Latino Immigrants.” With fifty New Jersey municipalities containing 27% and up to 82% Latino population the health and economic ripple effect due to the pandemia on families across our continent is catastrophic. As of April 9th, nationwide Latinos represent 34% of virus-related deaths with another whopping percentage of unemployed workers. Prior to COVID19 there were more than 116,000 Latino owned businesses generating a 12 billion dollar economy for our state. Latino entrepreneurship grew at 2.5 times faster than any other US firm. The times have forced a great number of Latino businesses to close; today, most struggle to survive while re-engineering their activities to successfully weather the storm.

During May 2020 Latino owned Latino Spirit Media with the logistic support of Latino Business owner Al Serje from Macs Cleaning successfully distributed over 4 tons of food to Trenton, Lakewood and Camden. This past May 29th, with the collaboration of City of Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora and the city’s recreation department over 300 families were served.

Latino Spirit Media is owned and operated by Diego Maya. The company provides latino-centric empowering media. During the c19 pandemia it has stepped up to the plate helping the state by using its own resources to voluntarily broadcast and translate Governor Phil Murphy’s covid-19 daily briefings LIVE in Spanish; over 1.9 Million Hispanics in New Jersey now have access to the governor’s decisions in their own language. The Latino Spirit Media also produces daily audio visual content about Latino life to positively engage and unite the region’s own hispanic diverse cultures.
