Holley Bill to Ensure Innocent Victims of Accidents Involving Uninsured Drivers Receive Certain Coverage Clears Panel
(TRENTON)– Legislation providing coverage for innocent persons who are injured in a car accident involving a driver whose insurance policy may have been obtained fraudulently was approved by the Assembly Financial Institution and Insurance Committee.
Assemblyman Jamel Holley (D-Union), the bill’s sponsor, issued the following statement:
“The claim process for a motor vehicle accident can be painstakingly slow and cumbersome under normal circumstances; even more so, when the validity of the insurance policy is in doubt.
“An innocent injured party should not be forced to wait for Personal Insurance Protection benefits pending the outcome of a fraud investigation.
“If the accident was no fault of their own, they should not have to take on the burden of healthcare costs for their injuries. This legislation will help to ensure fair and equal treatment to all innocent parties injured in an accident by giving them the right to seek reprieve under the Unsatisfied Claim and Judgment Fund.”
