Holzapfel: Murphy leaves New Jerseyans in the Dark on Sanctuary State Status

March 4, 2024

Today, Senator Jim Holzapfel (R-10) called on Governor Murphy to address New Jersey’s open border and sanctuary city policies before the chaos we’re seeing in New York spills into New Jersey.

“The public has been left in the dark when it comes to the Murphy administration’s approach to our nation’s immigration crisis, and we need answers,” said Sen. Holzapfel. “Our state resources are already strained, as seen from the proposed funding cuts to 100+ school districts. Our schools, hospitals, law enforcement, and local communities can’t handle the rapid population growth. And unfortunately, we’re all left wondering about the governor’s plans on everything from if local law enforcement is cooperating with ICE to how the governor and attorney general will prevent our municipalities from being overwhelmed.”

“My concern has always been about the rule of law and protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens,” added Holzapfel. “These policies jeopardize the safety of millions of our residents and overwhelm the already-existing hardships in our municipalities when we should be ensuring all New Jerseyans have the tools for success. It’s time the president and governor get serious about this crisis before it’s too late.”
