Hudson County CLC and Middlesex-Somerset County CLC Show Organizational Strength with Union Member-to-Member Voter Contact on Behalf of Endorsed Primary Candidates

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO greatly appreciates the Hudson County and the Middlesex-Somerset County CLCs for organizing massive labor walks to get-out-the-vote for labor approved candidates.

In a show of strength for the labor movement, the Hudson County CLC put boots on the ground in support of Jimmy Davis as Mayor of Bayonne and his Council running mates in the May 10th municipal non-partisan election, as well as to elect Robert Menendez to Congress in the June 7th primary election.

Not to be outdone in Piscataway, the Middlesex-Somerset County CLC marshalled union members to contact Piscataway voters to elect Frank Uhrin in Ward 1, Jim Bullard in Ward 2, Sharon Carmichael in Ward 3, and Michele Lombardi in Ward 4 in the June 7th primary election.

Our political program continues to grow and change so we can fight for working families in the most effective ways possible. 197 union members showed up in solidarity today with their union sisters and brothers to make sure labor’s united voice is heard in these elections. The outcome of primary elections is having more influence on the outcome of general elections than ever before. The Hudson County CLC and the Middlesex-Somerset County CLC are responding to this trend by leading the way and supporting their endorsed candidates earlier in the electoral process.

Anyone interested in volunteering for labor walks should contact COPE Director John Shea at 609-989-8730 or cope@njaflcio.org.
