Hudson County Commissioner Anthony Romano Endorses Rafi Cordova for Hoboken Ward 1 Council

Hudson County Commissioner Anthony Romano Endorses Rafi Cordova for Hoboken Ward 1 Council

The Cordova for Hoboken 1st Ward Council campaign today announced that Rafi Cordova has won the backing of Hudson County Commissioner Anthony Romano. A resident of the 1st Ward, Romano represents Hoboken and parts of Jersey City on the Board of Commissioners.

“I announce my strong support for Rafi Córdova in his campaign to be the next 1st Ward City Councilman,” Commissioner Romano said. “Rafi’s care and attention for all Hoboken residents, coupled with his deep knowledge of the most important issues facing our ward make him the ideal candidate to represent us.”

Anthony Romano cited Rafi Cordova’s years of service to the community as a private citizen as a major reason for his support, calling Rafi “the kind of public servant the 1st Ward needs on the City Council.”  “Rafi has been quietly working behind the scenes to make a difference in Hoboken and for our neighbors for many years,” Mr. Romano added. “Rafi has built deep ties with the city’s seniors, for whom he serves as a bridge to city services. For the countless residents who know him, he is a dependable and tireless helping hand for any issue that arises.”

Commissioner Romano also highlighted Rafi Cordova’s advocacy for tenants. “As Chair of the Hoboken Rent Leveling and Stabilization Board, Rafi has worked to keep Hoboken affordable,”Anthony Romano said. “He is a fierce champion of tenant’s rights, fair rents, and development that benefits residents, as opposed to the bottom line of developers or unscrupulous landlords.”

Commissioner Romano joins former 1st Ward Councilwoman Terry Castellano, Democratic Committeewomen Eileen Carvalho, and Mayor Ravi Bhalla in backing Rafi Cordova’s candidacy.

Provided below is Anthony Romano’s complete endorsement letter that will be sent to 1st Ward residents.

Dear Neighbor,

I am writing to you to announce my strong support for Rafi Córdova in his campaign to be your next 1st Ward City Councilman. Rafi’s care and attention for all Hoboken residents, coupled with his deep knowledge of the most important issues facing our ward make him the ideal candidate to represent us.

Rafi has been quietly working behind the scenes to make a difference in Hoboken and our neighbors for many years. He began working with the Symposia Bookstore, a non-profit that serves as a center for community building. He also began volunteering for In Jesus’s Name, an interfaith charity dedicated to serving those most in need within the community. Rafi has built deep ties with the city’s seniors, for whom he serves as a bridge to city services. For the countless residents who know him, he is a dependable and tireless helping hand for any issue that arises — Rafi is the kind of public servant the 1st Ward needs on the City Council.

Rafi accomplished all of this without any press release, position or title, but earlier this year, he took the opportunity to expand the scope of his work by becoming Chair of the Hoboken Rent Leveling and Stabilization Board, where he has worked to keep Hoboken affordable. He is a fierce champion of tenant’s rights, fair rents, and development that benefits residents, as opposed to the bottom line of developers or unscrupulous landlords — Rafi is the kind of advocate the 1st Ward needs on the City Council.

I know firsthand that Rafi is among the few truly independent voices in Hoboken politics. It because of this independence, he has earned the support of such varied people throughout the Ward. Rafi knows how to work with the Mayor and the Mayor’s opponents alike, because he places the public good over petty politics — Rafi is the kind of coalition builder the 1st Ward needs on the City Council.

Rafi wants to win a seat on the City Council so he can serve residents 365 days a year. I hope you’ll join me in supporting Rafi Córdova to be our next City Councilman.

Sincerely,

Commissioner Anthony Romano
