Irvington Mayor Vauss Extends His Condolences to the Payne Family

Statement from Mayor Tony Vauss of Irvington, NJ

I express my deepest condolences to the family of the late Rep. Donald M. Payne Jr. on His passing. Throughout his six terms in Congress, Rep. Payne Jr. stood out for his passion for constituent service and his relentless advocacy for key issues such as Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, racial justice, reproductive freedom, and public transportation.

His advocacy for reducing community gun violence and his support for vital legislation such as the Build Back Better Act and the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, underscore his tireless pursuit of a more just and equitable society for all. Rep. Payne Jr.’s legacy extends beyond his legislative achievements. He was instrumental in driving initiatives to fund clean drinking water projects, leading to significant improvements in infrastructure across the nation.

His commitment to making childcare, housing, and prescription drugs more affordable, as well as his efforts in fighting climate change, exemplify his dedication to serving the needs of all community members. As we mourn the loss of a remarkable leader, I join with our Irvington community in honoring Rep. Donald M. Payne Jr.’s impactful contributions and unwavering dedication to public service. His legacy will continue to inspire us to advocate for progress, justice, and equality in our society.

May his memory be a blessing, and may his spirit guide us all!
