JCPD Officers Host “Shop with a Hero”, 300 Jersey City Youth to Holiday Shop with Donated Gift Cards
WHAT: Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the Jersey City Police Department will host this year’s “Shop with a Hero” event where 300 children from Jersey City will receive $25 gift cards. The law enforcement officials will pair up with the children to shop for gifts they can keep for themselves or their give to loved ones this holiday season. The positive interactions between Jersey City’s youth and the officers helps to bolster trusting relationships, furthering overall efforts to improve community relations – a proven crime fighting tool.
This year, the JCPD invited Military personnel as well as the JCFD, NJ Transit officers, Port Authority police, National Guard, and other law enforcement agencies to participate in the annual tradition (formally known as “Shop with a Cop”) to help local children shop at Target with money donated by the Jersey City Police Unions, Jersey City Puerto Rican Committee, and Cardinal Property Management which provided all of their young property residents with gift cards.
