JERSEY CITY, N.J., October 23, 2021 —
Greener JC is on a mission to make Jersey
City a little bit more sustainable, and their list
of upcoming community-based projects will
help them further this goal; a guide to help
businesses learn about sustainable methods,
nicknamed the Green Business Toolkit; and a
Virtual Green Business Community Event on
Saturday, October 23, 2021, that will kick off
the application period for the Greening Your
Business Grant, an opportunity intended to
help small businesses break into the world of
sustainability!

Greener JC is ecstatic to announce that money received from the Love and Beauty Planet Project to support and facilitate acts of change towards the community will fund the Greening Your Business Grant! This grant is an opportunity for local businesses to receive up to $1,000 towards plastic reduction projects. Funding can support the purchase of more eco-conscious items, efforts to phase out styrofoam or plastic straws, or other programs to decrease plastic use. The application period begins on Saturday, October 23, 2021 and runs through Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Paper applications can be mailed to 36 Duncan Ave. APT E1 in Jersey City, N.J. 07304, while the online grant application can be found at greenerjc.org/greening-your-business.

“Plastic pollution is a massive problem, per the United Nations Environment Programme nearly 300 million tons of plastic are used per year and our oceans could contain more plastic than fish by 2050! Beginning May 4, 2022, single-use carryout bags and polystyrene foam food service products will be banned in New Jersey stores and food service businesses, so take advantage of this opportunity to get
your business prepared while doing your part to make a greener Jersey City!” says Greener JC Chair, Erin Hill.

It is highly encouraged for applicants to attend or view the recording of the kickoff for the grant, the Virtual Green Business Community Event, which will be held on Zoom on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. In collaboration with green businesses and expert sustainability speakers, the two-hour event will contain an informative panel and breakout room discussions centered around various sustainability issues in the state of New Jersey.
