Jersey City Councilman Robinson Declares to Continue Fighting for Youth Recreation Center
Superior Court Ruling Requires More Amendments for the Intended Development Area
(August 18, 2021) Jersey City, NJ—On Tuesday, Hudson County Superior Court ruled against the amended changes to the Morris Canal Redevelopment Plan where Jersey City Councilman Jermaine Robinson has been negotiating to bring the city its first public recreation center.
“I can’t give up. Giving up on this recreation center would be giving up on our youth,” says Councilman Robinson. “Our young adults need alternatives to violence and crime. They need outlets where they can develop their greatness. This is why I’m so focused on active recreation and entrepreneurship, as it provides an outlet for our youth and residents to harness their energy for good.”
The court sent the plan back to the planning board and city council for adjustments. Councilman Robinson says he will work with his fellow council members to have the necessary adjustments made to ensure the site plan is consistent with the master plan.
Councilman Robinson is actively engaged with all developers especially in Ward F redevelopment areas, mandating bold plans that include on-site affordable housing and other community reinvestments for all residents in Jersey City.
He is feeling optimistic about the next steps for this project in the Morris Canal Redevelopment Area. “We have a clear path ahead of us, and the good thing is that the idea of a recreation center and minority business incubator was favorable to the court,” says Robinson.
