Jersey City Police Chief Michael Kelly Presents: the 1st Annual “True Blue Christmas”

JCPD Targets Youth with History of Violence to Provide Presents and Positive Interactions with Police

What:             Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the Jersey City Police Department Chief Michael Kelly announce a new seasonal initiative providing a positive experience between police officers and Jersey City youth who are specifically identified as having been exposed to a history of violence in their families.  The Chief’s True Blue Christmas event will take place at Newport Centre where officers will provide 30 children, ranging in ages from 2-13 years old, with a $100 gift card to holiday shop.

The JCPD officers will spend quality time shopping with the participants and their families to help pick out presents either for themselves or to give to a loved one.  The purpose of the event is to expand upon the JCPD’s efforts to establish and nurture police-community relationships, and to help divert youth away from system involvement.   The event is being sponsored by Hudson Pool Management.
