Jersey City Temple Memorial Year After Kosher Market Tragedy
Clergy, Community and Government Leaders to Honor Memory of Those Lost
(Jersey City, N.J.) Congregation B’nai Jacob, an Egalitarian Synagogue in Jersey City, N.J., will host a memorial honoring the memories of three private citizens and the police detective killed in the attack on the Kosher Market in Jersey City last year. The Memorial will take place on the one-year anniversary, December 10, 2020, at 6:30 PM. Limited, on-site access is by invitation only. For a Zoom video link, please contact: bnaijacobjc@gmail.com
Congregation B’nai Jacob since 1959 has been a continuous part of the Greenville community, the area of Jersey City where the shooting took place. The Memorial program will include reflections on healing and moving together as a community toward nonviolence and cultural understanding.
“The shooting at the Kosher Market last year was a trauma for the community. Since then, we’ve focused on building coalitions that support nonviolence and social justice in Greenville and across the city,” said Michael Zwain, President of Congregation B’nai Jacob. “The Memorial is important so we can come together to honor the lives of the four people who died so tragically that day. May their memory be a blessing.”
Testimonials will be offered individually and on behalf of the families of the fallen by clergy, activists and community leaders including N.J. Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, N.J. Assemblywoman Angela V. McKnight, Jersey City Anti-Violence Coalition Movement’s Pamela Johnson, and a representative of the Jersey City Police Department.
