Joe Hathaway Calls on Democratic Opponents to Join Pro-Israel Pledge Following Antisemitic Hanukkah Attack

RANDOLPH, NJ - In the wake of the horrific antisemitic attack at a Hanukkah celebration in Bondi Beach, Mayor Joe Hathaway, Republican candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th District, is calling on every one of his Democratic opponents in the race to join him in signing a clear and unequivocal pro-Israel pledge.
To Hathaway, the recent terrorist attack is the latest reminder that antisemitism is not a relic of history, but rather a real and growing threat to Jewish communities. New Jersey’s 11th District is home to one of the largest and most vibrant Jewish communities in the state.
Hathaway believes that Jewish families deserve to know where their prospective elected officials stand, not just after tragedy, but before the next one occurs:
“In moments like this, statements of sympathy are not enough. Leadership requires clarity, consistency, and the courage to take a stand. At a time when Jewish communities are under attack and Israel is facing relentless terrorism, there is no room for silence or hedging,” said Hathaway. “I’m calling on every Democratic opponent in this race to stand with me and sign a pro-Israel pledge, clearly, publicly, and without conditions. If you want to represent this district, you should have the moral clarity to stand with our Jewish neighbors and with Israel.”
If elected to Congress, Hathaway has committed to strengthening security for synagogues and Jewish institutions, fully supporting law enforcement, and holding elected officials accountable when they enable or excuse antisemitism.
“To the Jewish families of New Jersey and around the world,” Hathaway added, “you are not alone. I wish you a safe and peaceful Hanukkah, and I remain committed to matching words with action and standing with you every single day when I am elected to Congress.”
Joe Hathaway is a Republican candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th District. Hathaway was appointed to the Randolph Township Council in 2022, and now serves as Mayor. He lives in Randolph with his wife Whitney, and their three young children.
