Karabinchak & Chaparro on DEP Formally Publishing Heightened Standards for NJ’s Drinking Water

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Robert Karabinchak (D-Middlesex) and Assemblywoman Annette Chaparro (D-Hudson), respectively serving as chair and vice-chair of the Assembly’s Special Committee on Infrastructure and Natural Resources, released the following joint statement commending the DEP’s adoption of new rules for PFOA and PFOS chemicals in water:

“Posing a risk to both our health and the environment, the DEP announcing the inclusion of PFOA’s and PFOS’s to the state’s list of hazardous substances is welcome news. This classification, along with the now formally established standards on maximum contaminant levels, ensures that our public health will be more strictly safeguarded.

“As chair and vice chair of the Special Committee on Infrastructure and Natural Resources, we believe this marks a particularly important step. As we look to build a safer, greener and more sustainable New Jersey, this step will help move the needle to achieve better testing and treatment of our community water systems.”
