Kean Measure Designating April of Each Year as ‘Educational Opportunity Fund Month’ Clears Committee
A resolution sponsored by Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean that designates April of each year as “Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Month” has been advanced by the Senate Higher Education Committee.
“Since 1968, the Educational Opportunity Fund has provided critical services and support for hundreds of thousands of students, including counseling, tutoring, and developmental course work,” said Kean (R-21). “By designating the month of April as ‘Educational Opportunity Fund Month,’ we will help bring awareness to this important program that continues to make college more attainable for students facing academic and financial challenges.”
The resolution, SJR-105, would recognize the critical role that EOF plays in ensuring the meaningful access to higher education for economically and educationally disadvantaged students in New Jersey. EOF serves more than 13,000 students each year at 41 participating post-secondary institutions in New Jersey. Approximately 11,600 of the EOF recipients attend public institutions of higher education.
“Programs like EOF have helped make New Jersey one of the most educated states in the nation, and without it, many students would not have had an opportunity to pursue higher education,” added Kean. “I am proud to officially recognize EOF for the services they provide to the students and families of New Jersey.”
