Francis J. Walsh III, chairman and chief executive officer of NRS Inc., will receive an honorary Doctor of Business Administration from Kean University.

UNION, N.J. —  Kean University will award an honorary Doctor of Business Administration to Francis J. Walsh III, chairman and chief executive officer of NRS Inc., on Wednesday, May 20, during the University’s 2026 commencement ceremony at the Prudential Center in Newark.

Walsh, a leader in transportation, logistics and supply chain management, guides a third-generation family business with a legacy spanning more than 70 years. He has been named one of New Jersey’s most influential business leaders by numerous organizations and publications.

Under his leadership, NRS Inc. has grown into a national logistics platform providing integrated, end-to-end supply chain solutions to leading companies across the United States. The company today employs more than 11,000 people nationwide.

“Mr. Walsh embodies the kind of principled, purpose-driven leadership that Kean seeks to inspire in our students,” said Kean University President Lamont O. Repollet, Ed.D. “Through decades of leadership in logistics and supply chain management, he has shown how operational excellence, accountability and service can strengthen industries and communities. We are proud to recognize his achievements with this honorary degree.”

Walsh currently is working with Kean leadership and the College of Business and Public Management on the expansion of academic and organizational programming in logistics management, supply chain management and transportation and distribution.

“Mr. Walsh’s career is a powerful example of what it means to learn a business from the ground up and lead with integrity,” said Steve Fastook ‘06H, chair of the Kean University Board of Trustees. “His path from hands-on operations to the leadership of a complex national enterprise offers meaningful lessons for Kean students about perseverance, adaptability and respect for the people who make organizations work.”

Walsh’s leadership has been recognized by the broader business community, including NRS Inc.’s selection as a finalist in the NJBIZ Family Business of the Year Award and his inclusion in the NJBIZ and BINJE Power Lists. He has also demonstrated a sustained commitment to civic engagement and philanthropy, contributing to educational access, community development and charitable initiatives that support at-risk youth.

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from Kean University and grateful for the opportunity to work with the College of Business and Public Management as it develops and expands programming in logistics, supply chain management and transportation and distribution,” Walsh said. “NRS’s foundation is as a family-run business that values each employee’s contributions to making us successful. At the same time, this field depends on strong operations, trusted relationships and talented people. I am proud to help Kean connect students more closely with industry and prepare future leaders for meaningful careers in this essential part of the economy.”

Walsh joined NRS Inc. full-time in 1994 and advanced through the organization, ultimately succeeding his late father, Frank, who led the company for more than 40 years. His leadership philosophy is grounded in firsthand experience, accountability and respect for employees across all facets of the business.

NRS Inc. provides services across distribution, transportation and capacity, supported by a nationwide network of logistics assets. The company serves a range of industries and focuses on supply chain solutions that emphasize efficiency, security and resiliency.

“Logistics and supply chain management are vital areas of growth for business education, and Mr. Walsh brings direct industry insight that will benefit our students and faculty,” said Jin Wang, Ph.D., dean of Kean’s College of Business and Public Management. “His work with the College supports our efforts to expand academic and organizational programming that prepares students to understand the systems that move goods, serve customers and connect economies.”

Kean University will celebrate the Class of 2026 with a commencement ceremony for both undergraduate and graduate students beginning at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Prudential Center in Newark.
