Congressman Andy Kim Awarded the Gun Sense Candidate Distinction from Moms Demand Action in His Race for Senate

MOORESTOWN N.J. –  Yesterday, Congressman Andy Kim announced he has been awarded the Moms Demand Action “Gun Sense Candidate Distinction” in his race for U.S. Senate. Founded the day after the tragic shooting in Sandy Hook, Moms Demand Action has grown to be a national grassroots movement, with a volunteer chapter in every state of the country and Washington, D.C. and is part of Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country with nearly 10 million supporters.

“Far too many lives have been lost due to gun violence in this country, but the work done by grassroots groups like Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety gives me hope that together we can take on the MAGA agenda and the NRA to curb these senseless tragedies,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I have been a champion for gun violence prevention in the House and am ready to step up and find lasting solutions in the Senate so we can end gun violence in this country once and for all.”

In Congress, Congressman Kim co-sponsored and voted to pass into law the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, a landmark bill that represented the biggest advancement in gun violence prevention in more than a decade. The law includes enhanced background checks, protections for victims of domestic violence, and hundreds of millions of dollars for states like New Jersey for mental health services. Kim has also co-sponsored and worked to pass in the House the Enhanced Background Checks Act, which would close critical loopholes and improve background checks to keep guns out of the wrong hands, and has also co-sponsored the Assault Weapons Ban to keep weapons of war off of our streets. As a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, Congressman Kim has been recognized for his leadership on gun safety, receiving the “Gun Sense Candidate Distinction” during his first run in 2018, and during his reelection in 2020 and 2022.

First elected to Congress in 2018 at the age of 36, three-term Congressman Andy Kim is one of the younger members to serve in Congress and is the first Asian American elected to federal office from New Jersey. In 2018 and 2020, Andy defeated two self-funding millionaires in a district carried by former President Trump, going on to vote to impeach Trump twice throughout his presidency. In 2022, Kim defeated his third self-funding millionaire opponent by 12 points

In his three terms in Congress, Andy has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families and help support small businesses through challenging times. Andy has also been a leading champion in fighting against corruption in our broken politics.
