Newark, NJ –May 3, 2024—LaMonica McIver, Council President and Central Ward Council Representative for the City of Newark, was recently accepted to Seated Together, a unique advanced candidate training program run by Emerge designed to equip Black women leaders with the necessary tools and expertise to run and succeed in higher elected office.

Selected from a pool of highly qualified applicants, Council President McIver joins a cohort of Black women leaders from diverse backgrounds, each dedicated to making a difference in the political landscape. “I am thrilled to have been chosen for this exceptional opportunity to advance my leadership journey,” said McIver. “Aspiring Black women leaders often encounter unique obstacles in elected office. This program not only recognizes these challenges but will equip us with the knowledge and resources needed to overcome them.”

Emerge is a national organization focused on changing the face of politics in this country by breaking down barriers, opening doors, and creating pathways for Democratic women to get involved in politics. Seated Together offers a comprehensive curriculum tailored to the specific challenges and opportunities faced by Black women in politics, providing participants with cutting-edge strategies and skills essential to deepen their impact and advance up the political pipeline. The training covers a wide range of topics essential for aspiring women leaders, including campaign strategy, fundraising, public speaking, media relations, and coalition building. Participants benefit from expert instruction, mentorship from experienced political leaders, and networking opportunities with peers and industry professionals.
