Schepisi and Auth: LD39 Democrats Bought and Paid for By Dark Money PAC
LD39 Democrats Bought and Paid for By Dark Money PAC
“It is time to start asking the question, whose interests will John and Gerry represent if elected to the Legislature?”
MONTVALE – Following a six-figure ad buy from a shadowy dark-money group supporting the LD39 Democrats’ campaign, Assembly members Holly Schepisi and Bob Auth issued the following statement:
“Our opponents are now being supported by a dark money PAC that has vowed to not disclose its donors,” stated Assemblyman Auth. “This group is being run by the same people who have voted to raise our taxes dozens of times, cut funding for our schools, and support making New Jersey a sanctuary state. How can we expect John and Gerry to fight for us, when they are bought and paid for by Trenton special interests?”
“Holly and I have always supported good government principles, which include increasing transparency in government and politics. We call on NJ United to release the names of its supporters, so the people of Bergen and Passaic counties can see who is funding these commercials. We hope our opponents will do the same”
NJ United was formed this year by allies of Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin. The group has bought over $100,000 of television advertisements in the 39th Legislative District. According to a northjersey.com story, the group will not disclose its donors. Assemblywoman Schepisi is a sponsor of A-1524 which requires disclosure by independent expenditure committees.
“It is time to start asking the question, whose interests will John and Gerry represent if elected to the Legislature?” asked Assemblywoman Schepisi. “Will it be the residents of Bergen and Passaic counties? Or will it be the Middlesex County Democrats who are bankrolling their campaign? If you simply follow the money, the answer is self evident.”
“Bob and I are proud of our record on this issue, which includes sponsoring legislation requiring these types of PACs to disclose their donors. We have not, and will never, be bought by outside money groups that do not share our values. I hope our opponents do the right thing, and disclose where this money is coming from. The voters of Bergen and Passaic counties have the right to know who is funding these ads.”
