LEADING POLITICAL ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATION CELEBRATES PASSAGE OF CUMULATIVE IMPACTS BILL IN NEW JERSEY SENATE

TRENTON – The following is a statement from Lee Clark, Environmental Justice Policy Manager of New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, on the *BIPARTISAN* passage of S232, which addresses cumulative impacts and disproportionate burdens of pollution on communities of color.

“New Jersey LCV congratulates the New Jersey Environmental Justice Alliance and the Ironbound Community Corporation along with the other environmental justice organizations that have led the decades-long pursuit for comprehensive cumulative impacts assessments in New Jersey for their long sought victory today,” said Lee Clark, Environmental Justice Policy Manager, New Jersey LCV. “We urge Speaker Coughlin to move A2212/S232 in the Assembly and get it to Governor Murphy’s desk. Air pollution can be a matter of life and death as the unjust and disproportionate impact of air pollution on communities of color are more likely to be diagnosed with respiratory illnesses such as asthma and die from COVID-19. The New Jersey Senate has taken a big step forward to addressing these unjust pollution burdens today.”
