Legislation Protecting Security System Companies from False Alarm Penalties Passes Assembly Committee

(TRENTON) – Legislation prohibiting local governments from imposing penalties on alarm companies for false alarms that were not due to operational error, improper installation or defective equipment passed the Assembly Regulated Professions Committee on Thursday. Sponsor of the bill (A-5561) Assemblyman John Burzichelli (D-Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem) released the following statement:

“Although false alarms can waste first responders’ time and distract from real crimes and emergencies, security system companies should not be penalized when those incidents are out of their control. If a false alarm is due to simple user error rather than system malfunction, the blame should not lie with the company – especially when these businesses help make our homes and communities safer.”
