Legislature’s State Budget Bill Provides $348 Million More in State Aid for School Districts

TRENTON – The Senate Majority Office today released the official Office of Legislative Services school aid figures for all school districts under the provisions of S2019/A4200, the Legislature’s State Budget bill that was approved by budget committees in both the Senate and the Assembly yesterday.

The Senate budget bill provides $8.428 billion in state school aid for the upcoming school year, an increase of $348 million over the FY18 budget, and includes large increases in aid for the most underfunded school districts.

School districts in 17 of New Jersey’s 21 counties will see a net increase in state school aid under the Legislature’s plan, as will 72% of the schoolchildren in New Jersey.

The Legislature’s budget provides $65 million more in state aid for school districts than the Governor’s budget proposal. Overall, state school aid increases 4.3% over the FY18 budget under the Legislature’s school funding plan.
