(EAST BRUNSWICK)—The Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), the 25,000-member political powerhouse in New Jersey, is endorsing Governor Phil Murphy’s reelection bid.
“From his commitment to transportation infrastructure investment, to his strong support of apprenticeship programs, to designating construction workers essential during the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Phil Murphy has been a stalwart ally of organized labor and Laborers in particular,” said Raymond M. Pocino, LIUNA Vice President and Eastern Regional Manager. “For these reasons and more, we are proud to endorse Governor Murphy in his reelection bid.”
“I am honored to have the women and men of LIUNA by my side as we build New Jersey for the better,” said Governor Murphy. “Through our historic investments in infrastructure and the clean energy economy, we’re keeping the union doors wide open for thousands of Laborers and working families to walk into the middle class. Together, we’re ensuring our union brothers and sisters are a part of solving challenges today and building a stronger future for tomorrow.”
Over the past four years, Governor Murphy and his administration have repeatedly defended, protected, and advocated on behalf of the working-class men and women of New Jersey by:
- Working with the building trades to close loopholes in the state’s business tax incentive programs, ensuring construction work performed with state tax incentives pays the prevailing wage to workers;
- Supporting efforts to modernize New Jersey’s natural gas infrastructure, reducing environmentally harmful and potentially dangerous methane gas leaks;
- Strongly enforcing New Jersey labor laws, protecting workers from unscrupulous contractors; and
- Advocating on behalf of the Portal North and Gateway Tunnel projects at the state and federal level.
The 25,000 members of LIUNA New Jersey are committed to building a better state for all 9.2 million residents. The labor these men and women provide produces the buildings we use and the infrastructure we rely upon. Their efforts would be bolstered by four more years of Phil Murphy at the state’s helm.
LIUNA New Jersey members understand the power of political engagement and will work hard over the next five months to support Phil Murphy’s reelection.
