LOCAL YOUTH TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL 4-H WEEK

The anticipation is building for National 4-H Week, during which millions of youth, parents, volunteers and alumni across the country will be celebrating everything 4-H. Passaic County 4-H will observe National 4-H Week (October 3-9) this year through both in-person and virtual events and programs showcasing the incredible experiences that 4-H offers young people.

The theme of this year’s National 4-H Week is Find Your Spark, which highlights how 4-H provides opportunities for all youth, no matter where they live, to take part in learning experiences and opportunities in a variety of areas including science and technology, healthy living, agriculture, expressive arts, and much more.  4-H Youth Development Program learning experiences and opportunities allow young people to explore new things, develop interests, and identify areas that inspire them. 4-H reflects the principles of positive youth development, experiential learning, and the importance of having fun. The positive environment provided by 4-H mentors ensures that kids in every county and parish in the country  ̶  from urban neighbourhoods to suburban schoolyards to rural farming communities  ̶  are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles and are empowered with the skills to lead in life and career.

Passaic County 4-H will be celebrating National 4-H week with virtual and in-person programming. On October 9th at 10:00 am we will be virtually conducting the 2021 4-H STEM Challenge, “Galactic Quest”. Families will be completing activities that focus on the mysteries and adventures of space exploration. Passaic County 4-Her’s, Alumni, and Leaders will be receiving signs to post in windows at home/work stating “A Proud 4-H’er Lives Here” to help celebrate National 4-H week.

“4-H provides an opportunity in which youth members and adults volunteer leaders learn, grow, and work together as catalysts for positive change. 4-H promotes the development of skills that help young people succeed in higher education, their chosen career path and as members of their families and communities,” said Marycarmen Kunicki, County 4-H Agent.

Passaic County 4-H Clubs focus on different topics including Creative Arts, Teen Leadership, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), Archery, and Alpacas. Passaic County 4-H also collaborates with community partners to provide programming in summer camps, afterschool settings, and local libraries.
