Madden Statement Regarding Commissioner

Asaro-Angelo’s UI Testimony

Trenton – The Senate Labor Committee today heard testimony from the Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development, Robert Asaro-Angelo, on the current status of New Jersey’s unemployment insurance system and the misclassification of workers. Committee Chairman Fred Madden issued the following statement:

“Unemployment services in New Jersey have been unacceptable, and many individuals have been left without answers. Now, two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, there should be reliable and effective solutions in place to assist people seeking answers. How does it take a year to close out unemployment cases? The State of New Jersey cannot do this to its people. Our state’s employees pay into this system, and they expect a public service that is accessible. It is my hope that going forward, the legislature can urge the Department of Labor to bring back full in-person services.”
