HOWIE HAWKINS AND ANGELA WALKER FOR PRESIDENT AND VICE-PRESIDENT
“We need the voices of workers in the White House!”
As the Green Party of New Jersey’s candidate for U.S. Senate in 2020, I go on record this Labor Day as endorsing two workers for the White House in November, Howie Hawkins and Angela Walker, the Green Party candidates for president and vice-president in 2020. Howie Hawkins and Angela Walker are also endorsed by the Socialist Party USA.
I do this because even though I acknowledge the dangerous path this country is traveling on, I also understand that in order to change direction we must break with the one-party system masquerading as two — the Democrats and the Republicans. We must stop voting for the lesser of two evils. This is the year to vote for the policies we support, not the party. The past six months of living through this pandemic have shown us how this system has failed us in just about every essential way.
This country desperately needs:
- A single-payer, national health insurance program, an improved and expanded Medicare for All.
Howie Hawkins and Angela Walker support this. Biden/Harris do not. In fact, Biden promised to veto it, should such a bill wind up on his desk. Doesn’t he know that, during this pandemic, an estimated 5 to 12 million people have lost their health insurance??
- An end to the use of fossil fuels and a conversion to 100% clean energy sources as soon as possible. We may not have even 10 more years to prevent on-going climate chaos and ultimately catastrophe!
Howie Hawkins and Angela Walker call for an immediate ban on fracking, as one way to stop our reliance on fossil fuels. Howie Hawkins is also the architect of the original eco-socialist Green New Deal, which calls for a 75% cut in the military budget. We cannot confront climate change without cutting way back on our military interventions, most all of them illegal. The military is one of the top 2 consumers of fossil fuels in the world. Biden/Harris have promised never to ban fracking. A vote for Biden/Harris will not do much for addressing the climate catastrophe!!
- An end to imperialistic, costly, undeclared and illegal wars. This year’s military budget stands at $740 billion, with hidden and additional costs bringing it up to more than $1 trillion. Approximately 57 cents out of every tax dollar goes to fund the military, while only 6 cents goes to fund education. This is not sustainable or healthy. Our national spending priorities need to shift.
Howie Hawkins and Angela Walker support a 75% cut in the military budget and oppose U.S. initiation of and participation in endless wars. If past history is any indicator, Biden/Harris will continue to support the policy of U.S. intervention in Central/South America, the Middle East, South Asia and more. The people of this country and the world cannot afford more of the same.
Many say that the strategy of those who oppose Donald Trump must be first to remove him from office and then work on moving Biden/Harris to the left. In my 40 years of voting, I have never seen that strategy work.
Howie Hawkins and Angela Walker already stand for those policies the majority of people in this country desperately need. They don’t need to be pushed anywhere.
If ever there was a time to vote third party, this is it! A vote for Hawkins/Walker helps the Greens reach 5% of the vote nationally and will help to build the Green Party both here in New Jersey and around the country. Achieving 5% of the vote nationally will make the Greens a federally recognized party, making it easier for the Greens to build strength and political power. Here in New Jersey, a solid blue state, vote your conscience, not your fears!
Let’s make our vote count for something this election cycle. Vote for Hawkins/Walker, two strong, workers’ voices for the people!
