Major Union Endorsement Goes to Salerno

The International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART) Backs Salerno in NJ 2nd Congressional District

New Jersey, April 16, 2024 The International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART) announced their support for Joe Salerno in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District race. This union endorsement marks the growing momentum making Salerno the likely Democratic candidate in the contest to unseat Republican incumbent Jeff Van Drew.

SMART has over 200,000 members working in the sheet metal, air transportation, and rail transportation industries. “Joe’s focus on job creation, fair wages, a stronger infrastructure, and affordable healthcare reflects the priorities of our members'” said Stephen Dodd, Director of Governmental Affairs at SMART. “He has what it takes to bring about the change in leadership we need.”

With this latest endorsement, the Salerno campaign continues to put critical pieces in place to take back the seat for Democrats. “I’m so pleased that SMART sees what’s at stake,” said Salerno. “They recognize the need to go to work on behalf of South Jersey families instead of sitting back like our current representative, waiting to be told what to think and what to do by Donald Trump.”
