Make the Road Action Endorses Sadaf Jaffer for Assembly in LD-16

Cites Former Mayor’s Strong Record of Support for Immigrant Inclusion

New Jersey – March 4, 2021: Today, membership based organization Make the Road Action announced their endorsement of Sadaf Jaffer for Assembly to represent New Jersey’s 16th Legislative District.

“We are thrilled to support Sadaf Jaffer, a true progressive, for the LD16 Assembly race. Sadaf has a strong track record of support for immigrant communities, young people and for racial justice. As Mayor of Montgomery, she spearheaded a resolution to call for the end of immigrant detention, created a Youth Council to give young people a voice in the township and worked to address racial justice issues within the town. Now, during the pandemic, when our state is at risk of worsening economic and racial inequality, we need strong leaders like Sadaf that can support a just recovery and ensure that no one is left behind from aid, especially our immigrant brothers and sisters,” said Sara Cullinane, New Jersey state director of Make the Road Action.

“I am proud to have the endorsement of Make the Road Action,” said Sadaf Jaffer. “If elected to the New Jersey General Assembly, I will coordinate with grassroots organizations like Make the Road Action to ensure that ALL New Jerseyans, regardless of immigration of documentation status, have access to healthcare, housing, safe working conditions, and pandemic relief funding. Respect and dignity are the underpinnings of a just society, and I aim to lead with these principles in mind.”
“Sadaf Jaffer has the qualities that we need in our state leadership: a strong sense of justice, a belief that all communities must be at the table to develop policies and a commitment to workers’ rights. Immigrants and people of color in New Jersey have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, and we need the state legislature to take bold steps to ensure we are not left behind. Sadaf is just the person for the job,” said Raquel Morsy, member leader of Make the Road Action.
