MALCOLM X DAUGHTER ILYASAH SHABAZZ TO DISCUSS RACIAL INJUSTICE AND VOTING WITH PROJECT READY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Project Ready to Partner with Parents for Great Camden Schools to Distribute Free Copies of “The Autobiography of Malcolm X”  Audiobook to Attendees

NEWARK – Author and activist Ilyasah Shabazz – the daughter of civil rights leader Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz – will join Newark-based social justice non-profit Project Ready for a discussion on civic engagement, racial injustice, and voting. The event is also co-sponsored by Parents for Great Camden Schools.

The conversation will include a public question and answer opportunity and will take place on Thursday, October 8th at 1:30pm via Facebook Live at https://www.facebook.com/projectreadynj.

“As we approach what may be the most consequential election in a generation for communities of color, we look forward to hearing from an accomplished author and activist on the connection between racial injustice and voting,” said Shennell McCloud, Executive Director of Project Ready.

“I am looking forward to participating in this discussion and learning from others,” said Shabazz. “It is important that everyone vote.”

“As we approach this coming election, I believe it’s best to draw both strength and lessons from the past, and to have Ilyasah help to channel those from first-hand experiences is monumental and appropriate for this moment” said Bryan Morton, Executive Director of Parents for Great Camden Schools.

Ms. Shabazz will also discuss her new book, “The Awakening of Malcolm X” about her father’s adolescent years as well as the release of the audiobook version of “The Autobiography of Malcolm X.” Project Ready has also received 25 free copies of the Malcom X audiobook from Audible which will be given away during the event.
